{"id":66,"date":"2012-12-22T13:06:06","date_gmt":"2012-12-22T18:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/notyourtypicalmaps.com\/?p=66"},"modified":"2013-01-12T13:09:44","modified_gmt":"2013-01-12T18:09:44","slug":"2012-the-year-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/notyourtypicalmaps.com\/?p=66","title":{"rendered":"2012, the Year in review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"no\"?--> What better time than the year end break to take stock on the year, and comment on the good, the bad and the verdict that was 2012&#8230;<\/p>\n<h1><b>The Good<\/b><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Boston remains a great town to live in. \u00a0Somerville (where I live), is as vibrant and dynamic as ever.<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s been quite a bite of travel in my life, which is phenomenal (and how I want to spend my life).<\/li>\n<li>I took on a couple go big projects that allowed me to play with open source software, and big-data.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve started to form a view point on what I want to do next.<\/li>\n<li>Our house is getting to be in good shape (massive purging of stuff in April).<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s a hope for progressivism in this country which is giving more hope that the sun will continue to rise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><b>The Bad<\/b><\/h1>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Our political system is a complete mess, if often feels that we&#8217;ve lost values common decency and respect towards one another (even if of different political view) for the promotion of unhealthy and destructive ideologies.<\/li>\n<li>My work needs to change. \u00a0I&#8217;m finding that increasingly I am in an administrative role\u2026 not what I love or am interested in. \u00a0My manager keeps on telling me I&#8217;m good at it. \u00a0If I&#8217;m not passionate about it, I don&#8217;t really care for it.<\/li>\n<li>I still take too many vacations for the sake of family.<\/li>\n<li>I was pretty badly injured at the end of 2011 (Achilles heel), and it&#8217;s taken most of the year to get back to a good running level (frequency and pace).<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve completed about 50% of my project list for the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h1><b>The Verdict<\/b><\/h1>\n<div>On the whole, I would give 2012 a B-. \u00a0Not a bad year, but definitely can be better. \u00a0Looking forward to 2013.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What better time than the year end break to take stock on the year, and comment on the good, the bad and the verdict that was 2012&#8230; The Good Boston remains a great town to live in. \u00a0Somerville (where I live), is as vibrant and dynamic as ever.
